Sharing Notes
Atomic notes
The Zettelkasten ("slip-box") method emphasized the importance of creating atomic notes with a single idea. Creating smaller notes with a single focus allows them to be connected in novel ways.
Reusable assets
Notes can be linked from many other notes and/or maps, and this makes them uniquely different from folder-based organization systems where a file only resides within a single folder hierarchy.
They are knowledge building blocks that can be rearranged and/or combined in various contexts that were never possible with folders.
Your thoughts, ideas, and knowledge are intellectual assets that can be harvested, packaged, and reused across many efforts and outputs for sharing.
Sharing ideas
Nicole van der Hoeven and Nick Milo stress the value of learning and sharing in public. Sometimes you might not know what notes to create that you can share. It's not necessary for these to be perfect and final before sharing with others. This is a common situation for those just getting started with publishing content as linked pages on websites, blog posts, or email newsletter.
Learning and discovery
You just need to share the process of learning, discovery, and understanding. It doesn’t have to be the final perfect solution to a problem, question, wonder, curiosity, or interest; just write about your journey with your ideas, thoughts, and experiences.
Remember we'll all just learning, but each of our perspectives and experience is a unique prism that reflects our thoughts that are worth sharing with others.
Work in progress
It's helpful to share work-in-progress with the garage door open on an ongoing basis with a regular cadence if possible. That's what I try to do with my Obsidian digital garden where I publish what I'm thinking, linking, and sharing.
Fluid frameworks
Nick Milo's concept of "fluid frameworks" allows for flexible structure in your PKM system using links, maps, and tags, as well as folders, enables reuse of atomic notes, and supports various thinking styles.
Integration with other tools
A robust PKM system integrates multiple apps to support different aspects of the knowledge management process, from exploring ideas to taking action.
Home page
It's also important to think about the role of a home note (or page) in my published Obsidian digital garden vault and Ghost website. New visitors need to know what is available that will help them and how they can access it.
Navigation paths
Navigation becomes very important since visitors will not know your site like you do, so additional menus, sidebars, hub maps (pages), etc. can help.
Linked pages
Of course, it's still important to have links available between related pages, along with ways to get back after following some path. It should always be easy to get back to the home page.
