Drafts - Add to Obsidian
Use this action to create new Obsidian notes from your drafts.
I created an Obsidian action group, and assigned an icon with white plus over a blue folder.
File
The Add to Obsidian action will add the current draft using the first line (title) as the file name. It writes this new Markdown note in a specific folder bookmark (Add) in your Obsidian vault, such as +
.
Folder
This action uses the File action step to write directly to a file in the Drafts bookmark folder . I suggest you define this during setup, or you can define it the first time you run this action.
I select the same “+” folder within my Ideaverse vault on iCloud Drive on both macOS and iOS since I currently use iCloud for syncing with Obsidian Mobile; if I changed to Obsidian Sync, then I would probably have a different folder for each.
Tag
It adds a tag note/draft
to enable dataview queries in Obsidian to process new draft notes further; of course, you can add other tags to the draft.
Install
Then you install the Add to Obsidian action from the Action Directory; it’s currently unlisted and only available through this private link, so it doesn’t appear in the public directory.
Directory
When you view the action in the directory, it shows the description and steps. Just click on the Install button to add it to your Drafts app.
Hotkeys
Also, I added hotkeys for header (^ ⌘ H
), bold (⌘ B
), italics (⌘ I
), and Add to Obsidian (⇧ ⌘ O
); note that hovering over an icon displays its hotkey.
Markdown
I copied frequent editing actions from the Markdown action group for header, list, bold, italic, and link.
Action Group
After these changes, you can select Obsidian as the current action group displayed in the Action List.
Action Bar
Also, you can assign this Obsidian group to the Action Bar in the Editor on macOS (and extended keyboard on iOS).
Details
If you have the free version, you can only install and run actions from the directory; with a Pro subscription, you can also create, duplicate, and edit actions. See details for more information.
