Act: 5/5 for my Pact to Write Entries in my Curiosity Log

Action

I’m excited to kick off this experiment officially for Week 2, although I did write entries most days last week after defining what I wanted to do. That illustrated how helpful this iterative loop cycle will help with incremental improvements and opportunities for growth. And I have made some adjustments based on my initial experiences with this process that I’m applying for this week.

Day 1: yes

  • Focused on time blocking
  • Tried Structured app for day planning.
  • Morning logging very good, but less later in the day.
  • Explored log entry formats for events, thoughts, questions, and actions.

Day 2: yes

  • Morning very good, but less later.
  • Used Sorted app for planning time blocks, but needs additional testing with scheduling.
  • Structured simpler and easy to use, whereas Sorted has more features and needs more time to explore.

Day 3: yes

  • Reconciled Morning Startup calendar block with OmniFocus Morning Ritual and Obsidian Day Plan and Review.
  • Resumed morning meditation and morning thoughts.
  • Logged diabetes glucose, insulin, carbs, meals, and alerts throughout the day.
  • More definition needed for Day Review.

Day 4: yes

  • Created and tested Curiosity Log templates for both day and week.
  • Moved all notes from OmniFocus actions to Obsidian and added links to OmniFocus in Obsidian notes.
  • Continued morning meditation and reflection.
  • Avoided email until after morning focus sessions.
  • More diabetes tracking all day.

Day 5: yes

  • Generated Curiosity Log from template for today.
  • Completed morning meditation for 3 days straight.
  • No email until after morning focus sessions (again).
  • These entries provide structure and practice improves format consistency.
  • It helps to capture thoughts, feelings, questions, and action throughout the day, especially after focus sessions with brief reflection.

Reflection

It was helpful to do a brief assessment of each trial during my Day Reviews so I could learn from each iteration and adjust for the next day’s trial. Now after 5 trials in my Week Review, I can provide a Summary and Plus Minus Next.

Summary

This experiment really helped me to focus on logging entries every day. It also helped me to get more structure for my day using my Curiosity Log template. Although I already have periodic notes (Day, Week, Month, Quarter, Year), I decided to start fresh with a Curiosity Log for these experiments. Eventually, this may morph into a periodic log (like Day or Week Log) linked to corresponding periodic notes.

Plus +

  • Time blocking helps me structure my day, especially focus sessions.
  • Capturing thoughts, feelings, questions, and actions throughout the day amazing.
  • Resuming my morning meditation practice with reflection.
  • Created Curiosity Log template based on my daily trials.
  • Deferred checking email until after morning focus sessions.
  • Logged more useful tracking information to improve diabetes management.

Minus -

  • I really need to make an effort to continue my logging later in the day.
  • I need to decide whether to use Structured or Sorted for time-block scheduling.
  • Also, I need to choose whether to use Session or Focus for my focus sessions.

Next →

  • Refine my logging and test enhanced capture shortcuts.
  • Continue logging entries every day.
