The Verge recently published an article about the new AI features in the Arc browser. I thought it might be useful to show how these AI features could be used; they are so well integrated into the browser and make everyday tasks easy and helpful.
Tidy Tab Titles
When you open tab in the Arc browser, AI will automatically rename the tab to make it easier to find in your sidebar. For example, it might be some complicated Amazon listing with lots of parameters, a vague page name that’s not very descriptive, etc.
In this case, the actual URL is https://www.theverge.com/2023/10/3/23898907/arc-max-ai-browser-mac-ios because it has a typical blog post format that identifies the date, unique ID, and file name. You don’t really want to see that URL as the tab title, and usually in other browsers (or bookmark managers) you would probably rename the title to be more meaningful.
However, with Arc Max, it does this for you with every link you open in the Arc browser (from whatever application, like Obsidian, Mail, OmniFocus, Fantastical, DEVONthink, etc. It even appends the appropriate icon to the title. It also identifies the source (The Verge).
You still have the option to rename it to something shorter than the article if you want by double-clicking the title (such as The Verge), which might be appropriate if it’s contained within a folder that defiines the context like Arc/Articles.
Tidy Download Titles
If you download anything from a webpage, you usually get some weird file name that doesn’t mean anything, and you have to rename it to something you can find later. With Arc Max, this is also done automatically for you.
5-Second Preview
When you simply hold the Shift key and hover over this link, you see a summary preview of that webpage inline. The actual dropdown image that is generated is much smaller than the embedded image
https://www.theverge.com/2023/10/3/23898907/arc-max-ai-browser-mac-ios
Also if you go to that webpage link for the article, you have always been able to use CMD+F (Find) to search, but now with Max you can use Ask to ask AI to provide a preview summary of the current page, and this is what you see_._ Actually, just click Ask (you don’t need to enter something like Summarize as shown here).
Ask on Page
Ask ChatGPT
You can also ask ChatGPT from the Command Bar (CMD+T).
Pretty cool, and helpful stuff!
